What WE need is self-care. Especially now. Here are 3 tips!

We should all consider practicing self-care first.  Especially now, during these hectic times.  Taking care of yourself is important because you need to be well before you are able to take care of others.  The same way a flight attendant kindly asks passengers to put on an oxygen mask in case of an emergency before putting an oxygen mask on a child, you should be nurturing your body and mind so that you are able to effectively function in the world, especially if you are managing and leading others.

Here are THREE tips to keep you on a positive self-care path:

Tip #1 Incorporate Wellness – consider nutritious foods that serve as healthy fuel for your body and consider your allergies and body responses when making selections.  Choose an exercise program that fits your schedule and that you actually enjoy.  This new routine will bring energy into your life!  There are so many options out there: take a yoga class, visit a Pilates studio, take a barre class, invest in a peloton machine, hire a trainer, go on neighborhood runs or walks, or join a gym.  There are also so many online options especially recently since a lot of people are now working from home!

Tip #2 Reenergize – create an energy routine that fits your schedule!  For example, incorporate a meditation routine, build energy by sleeping, relaxing, and resting properly during the week (and add this important time to your schedule!), consider listening to apps such as Calm, Shine, and Headspace, or download an audio book that inspires you.

Tip #3 Inspire and Lead – review your life goals and visualize your journey a few times a year to make sure you are achieving your life purpose.  You can create a vision board, write on a journal, or record voice memos.  Right now is a great time to also polish your skills by reading a new book, signing up for a workshop or class, or attending an online conference.

Taking care of yourself properly will provide a more balanced lifestyle that will increase your level of happiness and wellbeing.  Remember, it is only when you are well, healthy, and balanced that you are able to help and uplift others.
