3 Ways to Achieve a High Performing Team

By Tammy Klein and Nyrka Riskin

People work better with those whose behaviors they understand and relate to. Often times, these are people similar to themselves. However, most often we work with people unlike ourselves.  As a result, leaders who want effective and high performing teams should try to work with every team member’s behavioral style and consider the three ways you can foster a high performing team:

1-      Offer training in a behavioral model, such as DISC assessments and workshops

This type of training gives awareness of behavioral differences thereby impacting communication, conflict resolution, and motivation between members.  Moreover, a commitment from top levels of leadership is required in order to achieve positive results.

2-      Offer professional development training

Studies show that investing in customized training in specific areas of need enhances the overall performance and growth of an organization.  For example, a highly performing team should receive specialized training every year.  Areas such as supervisory skills, presentation skills, and time management skills can always be improved and enhanced.  With appropriate training, team members will have a greater chance to achieve positive results.

3-      Solving and preventing conflict workshops

Conflict resolution skills workshops are necessary to manage conflict in the workplace.  Understanding behavioral styles is the first step to solve and prevent conflicts.  For example, if you are able to adapt and work with the behavioral needs of the other person, then you will have a better chance to anticipate and even diffuse conflict.

Finally, investing in your team can be a significant gift and a great way to wrap up this challenging year.  Let us know how we can help you meet your training needs and gift the gift of training to your employees.
